Premiere of Edward Elgar's Imperial March
19 April 1897
His Imperial March was premiered at London's Crystal Palace during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebration. Elgar reached many milestones that very few English composers had previously come close to, and a level of fame never reached since Purcell: Richard Strauss hailed him the ‘first English progressivist’
